Game of thrones
Let your
creativity
reign when
refurbishing
chairs. The
only struggle
is figuring out
which
technique—
paint, image
transfers, old
sweaters,
scrap fabric—
will best
crown each
room.
Weave easy
A wash of paint and a cushion
woven with ribbons make a dull
seat shine, right. Remove the
seat cushion, then paint the
chair frame a punchy color.
Weave ribbons of varying
widths and colors over the
neutral cushion, securing the
ends with nails, glue, or heavy-duty tape. To make sure nothing
gets mussed, line the underside
of the ribbons with fabric glue
and press against the cushion to
secure. Reattach the seat
cushion to the painted chair.
Divide and conquer
A two-tone finish brightens even the
darkest and dullest chairs, above.
Choose a bright, inviting paint that
matches your room (we opted for an
eye-popping blue). Don’t be afraid to
punch things up with color—accent
pieces don’t ask for a huge
commitment. Tape off the parts of a
chair that you want to remain the
original finish, and apply a couple
coats of spray paint to the rest of the
chair for a quick and easy makeover.
